| Variant Of Dopamine Receptor Gene Linked To ADHD August 10, 2007 07:00:00Scientists believe that a variant of the dopamine receptor gene may be linked to ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) and with other thinner tissue in parts of the brain that deal with attention. You can read about this in hives of General Psychiatry (JAMA/Archives).Evidence has shown that ADHD is one of the most inherited neuropsychiatric disorders, say the authors. Many genes have been detected as maybe linked to ADHD. [click link for full article] - [Read more] |
| Gene Predicts Better Outcome As Cortex Normalizes In Teens With ADHD August 10, 2007 04:00:00Brain areas that control attention were thinnest in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who carried a particular version of a gene. However, the areas, on the right side of the brains cortex, normalized during the teen years, coinciding with clinical improvement. While the gene variant increased risk for ADHD, it also predicted better clinical outcomes and higher IQ than two other common versions of the same gene in youth with ADHD. - [Read more] |
| As Cortex Normalizes In Teens With ADHD, Better Outcome Predicted By Gene August 10, 2007 00:00:00Brain areas that control attention were thinnest in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) who carried a particular version of a gene in a study by the National Institutes of Healths (NIH) National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). However, the areas, on the right side of the brains outer mantle, or cortex, normalized in thickness during the teen years in these children, coinciding with clinical improvement. | ADHD Appears To Be Associated With Depressed Dopamine Activity In The Brain August 8, 2007 04:00:00Adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder show a blunted response to the drug methylphenidate (Ritalin), which increases brain dopamine levels, according to a new report. This suggests that dopamine dysfunction may be involved with ADHD symptoms, and may contribute to substance abuse that often occurs simultaneously. - [Read more] |
| ADHD Seems To Be Linked To Low Dopamine Brain Activity August 7, 2007 23:00:00Adults with *ADHD do not respond as well as children do to Ritalin (methylphenidate). Ritalin boosts brain dopamine levels. According to an article in Archives of General Psychiatry (JAMA/Archives), it is suggested that dopamine dysfunction may be linked to ADHD symptoms, and may be a factor in substance abuse that often takes place simultaneously. | Variant of the dopamine receptor gene may be associated with ADHD August 7, 2007 09:39:00A variant of the dopamine receptor gene may be associated with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and with thinner tissue in areas of the brain that handle attention, but also appears associated with better clinical outcomes among individuals with the disorder, according to a report in the August issue of Archives of General Psychiatry , one of the JAMA/Archives journals. - [Read more] |
